Mariia Bashtova

Mariia Bashtova is a contemporary figurative and surrealist painter working primarily in oil on canvas.

Her paintings explore a mix of themes, such as identity, memory, emotion, and communication, and the complex inner worlds we all carry.

Working across figurative realism, symbolism, and surreal imagery, she builds carefully composed scenes in which familiar subjects become psychological, dreamlike, and unexpected.

Her work returns to a set of recurring motifs, including veiled faces, geometric patterns, flowers, human figures, and symbolic objects. Together they form a visual language through which Bashtova examines the gap between the self we experience inwardly and the self we show to others.

Her style pairs meticulous figurative technique with bold composition and strong color. Rather than prescribing a single meaning, each painting invites viewers to step into the image and form their own connection with its symbols and emotional atmosphere.

Bashtova lives and works in Michigan.
